Demolition is under way of a once-famous hotel on the bank of the Thames.

As previously reported on River Thames News the derelict Skindles at Taplow near Maidenhead is on a site to be developed by Berkeley Homes. The scheme includes 121 new homes plus 60 retirement apartments.

A restuarant is to be built in place of the hotel and a footbridge will connect the Buckinghamshire bank with Ray Mill Island near Boulters Lock and a Thames-side walkway.

A pub once stood on the site in the 18th century but it was turned into a fashionable hotel by William Skindle in 1833. It later became a nightclub but has been derelict for many years.

Story dated November 10th 2015.
