Dunkirk Little Ships are to gather on the Thames in May prior to a return to mark 75 years since the evacuation.

They will form up in the Royal Docks on May 16th and 17th before sailing to Ramsgate to form up with others from around the UK.

The fleet by then expected toi number more than 50 vessels will sail to Dunkirk on May 21st before a series of ceremonies and events over the following days. They will return across the Channel four days later.

Over 338,000 British and French troops were saved from German forces when Operation Dynamo which included the commandeered Little Ships rescued the stranded troops.

Many of the small boats from along the Thames were gathered at Tough's boatyard at Teddington. A memorial beside Teddington lock commemorates the operation.

Among the vessels expected to joing the flotilla is the restored Thames fireboat Massey Shaw (above right). Her return to London after a major restoration was earlier reported on River Thames News. See HERE.

Others from the river include Aureol, Papillion, Hilfranor, Lady Gay, Tom Tit, Gay Venture, and Janthea
