The winners of National Historic Ships UK’s 2014 photography competition were revealed at an awards ceremony on board HQS Wellington on London’s Victoria Embankment. The awards were presented by maritime historian and TV presenter Dr Sam Willis.

National Historic Ships UK’s (NHS-UK) annual awards ceremony is a celebration of the UK’s maritime heritage and encourages people of all ages and backgrounds to engage with historic vessels through photography or volunteering to work on them.

The overall winner of the 2014 photography competition was awarded to Philippe Saudreau from Plérin, France after his image, To the Jib Sheet, (above) was chosen from over 400 entries .

Commenting on Mr Saudreau winning image, judge Peter Snow, said: “A powerful and beautifully composed picture which shows a veteran crewman at work on a classic boat.

 

 
 


Prizes were awarded to winners and others were highly commended in five categories, including Callum Leverett who won the Young Photographer section for his image Shavings.(above)
