RIVER VOLUNTEERS GET AWARDS

Volunteers who helped to keep the River Thames running had their efforts celebrated at an awards ceremony.

The ceremony was held on board the French Brother’s boat The New Queen of the Thames.

Andrew Graham, Waterways Operations Manager at the Environment Agency, said:“I’m really pleased to look back on another successful season. This summer we were lucky enough to have the weather to match.

" I hope the volunteers enjoyed themselves and I am sure that our boating customers are grateful for all the help they have received.  The commitment and dedication of our volunteers, some of whom have been with us now for four years is quite remarkable”.

Volunteers from the length of the River Thames were invited. Working as part of a team led by professional lock and weir keepers, volunteers have given their free time to help assist in operating the locks along the river Thames.
