Sight-seeing trips aboard amphibious 'ducks' are to start on the non-tidal river.

The land-and-water vehicles, a familiar sight in the Pool of London, are expected to start trips at Windsor later this month (August). This week the first duck has been on the Thames for its Maritime and Coastguard Agency examination - pictured above..

The company behind the venture, Windsor Duck Tours, plans similar attractions at Marlow, Henley and Oxford.

Its managing director Graham Lumley said: "This has been three years in the planning. Now after detailed negotiations with Windsor and Maidenhead Council we are almost ready to launch the service.

"We have had to meet stringent safety regulations as we have to have licences to carry passengers on both road and river. We are almost there and expect to announce the launch date soon..

"We are expecting delivery of further ducks at which time we will be the only company operating brand-new vehicles."

Passengers will be taken on a tour of Windsor by road before the vehicle enters the Thames via a slipway near the town's leisure centre for a river trip to Windsor bridge providing views of the castle.

The company's website is about to go live.
